Brand new Dr Who kicks off with a bang – Asylum of the Darleks

Written by Chris
The new series of Dr Who has started and who better than to kick things off than the Darleks?
(Warning there maybe spoilers)
The new series throws us straight into it as the Darleks ask for the Doctor’s help, a surprising twist indeed. It seems they have an entire planet that is used as a prison of sorts for Darleks that even they can’t handle.
New character Oswin enters the show
What is more surprising is that this episode introduces the Doctor’s soon-to-be new assistant, replacing Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). It seems she is due to start later on in the series so why they have introduced her so soon is rather puzzling. So who is she you ask? The character is called Oswin, played by Actress Jenna-Louise Coleman. She is stuck on the Asylum with all these crazed Darleks and she helps the Doctor and his crew to get around and switch off the shield that is protecting the Asylum from harm. She plays the role rather well, very charming and witty. Already giving the Doctor the nickname “Chin”, stating that he has a rather large chin. She brings more humour to the show and definitely a breath of fresh air.
So what about Amy and Rory?
With the rest of the episode when Amy discovered that she had lost the band that protected her from being turned into a puppet of the Darleks, it suddenly seemed all hope was lost. The threat of losing Amy sooner rather than later was quite a tough one but the Doctor pulled through with a plan. Upon leaving Amy and Rory to save Oswin he put his band onto her. Something Amy and Rory discover after having an argument over the reason they split up. Towards the end the pair get back together.
Matt Smith’s performance as the Doctor is as funny as ever and his quirky personality is still shown through the portrayal. This is set to be another exciting series for the show.
